08/12/2012 Exploding Flowers, Young Prisms, and Wymond Miles (Fresh & Onlys) @ Part Time Punks
Sunday August 12
Exploding Flowers will be playing Part Time Punks with Wymond Miles (Fresh
& Onlys) and Young Prisms.
Here's what the PTP website has to say:
WYMOND MILES, best known as the guitarist for The Fresh & Onlys, has just
released a superb 12" on Sacred Bones, "Under The Pale Moon," which has earned
universal raves from the likes of Pitchfork, & Gorilla Vs. Bear. The record
fuses dreamy Krautrock-esque soundscapes like something straight off the Brain
label in Germany in the 1970s with remarkable songs ala' "Porcupine" era Echo
& The Bunnymen, Nick Drake and 70s-era Beach Boys like "Surf's Up" and
"Sunflower". Or, as Miles puts it: "Sonically the mood had to reflect the
somberness of moving between the existential chaos of my 20s into this new
perspective of living... The mysterious hues of the soundscape reflect a sense
of curiosity and possibility in the canyons of sound."
Listen to WYMOND MILES.
EXPLODING FLOWERS fuse layers of the Paisley Underground's rural psychedelia
with Flying Nun fuzz and the psychedelicate song structures of Alex Chilton/Big
Star. September gurls (and boys) should pack their knapsacks and head down early
to hum along.

10 songs of bedroom recorded lo-fi art damage synth punk. Not much is known about main man Es Dee except that he's from Lodzkie, Poland. We here at Smashitup don't care where he's from because he has made a most amazing batch of songs that are paranoid, jittery, nervous, and schizophrenic. For fans of Dark Day, Los Microwaves, the Screamers, Legendary Pink Dots, and the Units.

The L.A. Times - 4 song 7"
Welcome to Smashitup! We have a few releases coming up this summer for your listening pleasure. Our first release is by The L.A. Times. Originally recorded in the mid-late 90's and set to be released on the garage punk label Scooch Pooch Records (Detroit Cobras, Electric Frankenstein, Bellrays, etc..) the band fell apart before it could happen. Gaining rave reviews at the time and playing shows all over Los Angeles and San Francisco with bands like the New Bomb Turks, the Rip Offs, Red Aunts, Necessary Evils, the Motards, Lazy Cowgirls, and the Bomboras. Forming in 1996 and ending in 1999, the L.A. Times featured Janet Housden on drums (ex Redd Kross)....aka 'Patch Kelly' of Lovedolls fame (Dave Markey's underground cult classic films Desperate Teenage Lovedolls and Lovedolls Superstar). 4 songs of 60's style Garage Trash meets 70's New York Punk. If the Voidoids had been on Crypt Records, this is what it might have sounded like.
